Patna: Hot and sultry weather continued to trouble city residents on Wednesday as the humidity level went up to around 70%. Though temperature in the city during the last 10 days has not crossed the 40 degree Celsius mark, the rising humidity level is causing huge discomfort.
State IMD director A K Sen said, "With the onset of monsoon over Kerala, hopes of monsoon's onset over Bihar by June 17-18 have increased.

This will further lead to increase in cloud cover. Alto stratus clouds have started entering the state, which will bring widespread rain. The cloud cover will definitely help to bring down the temperature level; however, there will be little relief from the sultry condition as the humidity level will rise further."
Incidentally, apart from Patna and Gaya, most of the districts are receiving good pre-monsoon rainfall since Tuesday. Rain will continue till Friday, said sources. "But for the city, there is little chance of more pre-monsoon showers or thunderstorms. Dust storms or thunderstorms occur when high temperatures combine with high humidity and connective clouds are formed," said Sen.
For the past few days, the night temperature too remained above normal and is hovering around 27-28 degrees Celsius. As there is only a marginal difference between the maximum and minimum temperatures, days and nights both are very hot.
According to Skymet Weather services, "Up in north India, there is a trough moving across Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, UP, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. This will continue to bring heat-triggered dust storm and thundershowers at a few places. However, temperature will continue to rise. Good rain over the region is likely only after June 10. Scattered pre-monsoon rain and thundershowers are likely over Bihar and Jharkhand in two days."
